ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved process is provided for preparing modified organo- polysiloxanes. The process comprises graft polymerizing monomers containing aliphatic unsaturation onto organopolysiloxanes in the presence of a free radical initiator and an inert liquid having a boiling point up to 100°C. at 760 mm Hg (abs.). The liquid is substantially a nonsolvent for the organo- polysiloxanes and the graft polymers at the applicable polymerization tem- peratures, and may be, e.g. water, methanol and contains fluoro and chloro- hydrocarbons, and desirably present in an amount of 2 to 20% by weight. The weight ration of the organopolysiloxane to monomers is from 10:90 to 90:10, desirably 20:80 to 60:40. By this process, means are provided for control- ling the exothermic reaction resulting from the graft polymerization. Con- sequently grafted organopolysiloxanes are now provided for monomers which heretofore could not be used in the graft polymerization because of such exothermic reaction.
