Abstract of the Disclosure This invention relates to a novel process for preparing (-)cis-1,2-epoxypropyl phosphoric acid and salts thereof with non-toxic bases. The process comprises oxidising cis-l-propenyl phosphoric acid to produce the corresponding racemic epoxy acid, adding L(+)-threo-l-(p-methylmercaptophenyl)-2-amino-1,3- propanediol as a resolving agent, alkalinising the suspension and isolating the acid salt with the base. These products are useful to inhibit the growth of both gram-positive and gram- negative pathogenic bacteria and are used in both the human and veterinary fields. The process, using thiomicamine as the resolv- ing agent, is a more efficient process than the prior art and allows for almost a complete recovery of the resolving agent.
