METHOD FOR PRESERVING POROUS INORGANIC SUBSTRATES ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for protecting porous inorganic substrates from damage by salt water, gaseous pollutants, graffiti, and erosion consists of applying to the porous inorganic substrate a gas and vapor permeable preservative composition consisting of an aqueous solution or dispersion of a carboxylated hydrophilic acrylic polymer, a cross-linking agent for the carboxylated hydrophilic acrylic polymer, and an effective amount of an ultraviolet-absorbing agent.
