ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for preventing plugging of a suction roll of a paper machine is described, which includes showering sealing water having incorporated therein from 10 to 500 ppm by weight, based on the sealing water, of malic acid on an inner wall of a shell of the suction roll. An anti-plugging agent for preventing plugging of a suction roll of a paper machine is also described, which comprises malic acid as an effective component.
