A method for preventing the overfilling of a storage container. The first step involves attaching a probe to an outlet end of a feed conduit used to convey product to a storage container being filled. The second step includes connecting the probe to technology for detecting the presence of product in the vicinity of the probe. The third step involves positioning the outlet end of the conduit over an opening in the storage container. When the level of product in the storage container rises to the vicinity of the probe such product level is detected allowing loading to be manually or automatically discontinued.
