ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The disclosure describes a method of processing sulphidic zinc ores and/or concentrates by leaching the same with cell acid such as sulphuric acid, and separating the leach and leaching residue. The leaching residue is dried and resmelted, and the leach is purified for subsequent electrolysis for the purpose of recovering zinc. The leaching is carried out with sulphuric acid under oxidizing conditions with the formation of elementary sulphur. The leaching residue is resmelted with combustion of elementary sulphur, into a disposable slag, with the simultaneous formation of a sulphidic matte for the absorption of copper, lead and noble metals, and a waste gas. The highly volatile metals and metal compounds remaining in the leaching residue are volatilized and pre- cipitated. This method enables to produce a disposable slag economically, with a reduction in the amount of energy and equipment required.
