A method for processing trihydrate alumina bauxite with a low reactive silica content by subjecting said bauxite milled at atmospheric pressure to Bayer method alkaline etching is described, being characterised in that a desilication or pre-desilication process is conducted prior to etching the milled bauxite for a period of at least 30 minutes at a temperature of not more than 108 ~C in the presence of a spent liquor aliquot with a non critical sol Al¿2?O¿3? g/l to caust Na¿2?O g/l concentration ratio (Rp) of 0.5 to 0.7, with a concentration of caustic soda of 140 to 170 g Na¿2?O/l, to obtain a desilicated suspension with a dry matter concentration of at least 0.7 tons per m?3¿ of suspension, and in that, directly after the suspension is subjected to etching at atmospheric pressure by the remaining spent liquor with a non critical Rp of around 0.5 to 0.7 and with a caustic soda concentration set to 180 to 220 g Na¿2?O/litre, a second desilication or post-desilication process is conducted for a period of at least 2 hours at a temperature of not more than 108 ~C, generally of 95 to 195 ~C, on the entire amount of suspension resulting from the etching, which then has an Rp of 1.05 to 1.17, prior to which the caustic soda concentration is adjusted by diluting to 140 to 180 g Na¿2?O/litre.

Procédé de traitement de bauxite à trihydrate d'alumine a faible teneur en silice réactive par attaque alcaline selon le procédé Bayer de ladite bauxite broyée à la pression atmosphérique et caractérisé en ce que: à la dessilicatation avant attaque de ladite bauxite broyée, ou prédessilicatation, d'une durée minimum de 30 minutes effectuée à une température n'excédant pas 108 ~C en présence d'une aliquote de liqueur décomposée de rapport Rp des concentrations Al2O3 sol g/l/Na2O caust g/l non critique généralement compris entre 0,5 et 0,7, de concentration en soude caustique comprise entre 140 et 170 g Na2O/l, pour obtenir une suspension dessilicatée dont la concentration en matière sèche est au moins de 0,7 tonne par m3 de suspension, on associe, immédiatement après attaque atmosphérique de ladite suspension par le reste de la liqueur décomposée de Rp non critique généralement compris entre 0,5 et 0,7 et de concentration en soude caustique réglée entre 180 et 220 g Na2O/litre, une 2ème dessilicatation ou post-dessilicatation d'une durée d'au moins 2 heures à une température n'excédant pas 108 ~C et généralement comprise entre 95 et 105 ~C de la totalité de la suspension issue de l'attaque dont le Rp alors est compris entre 1,05 et 1,17 et la concentration en soude caustique est préalablement ajustée par dilution entre 140 et 180 g Na2O/litre.
