ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The present invention deals with the production of 2-chlorethyldichlorosilanes by reacting vinyldichloro- silanes with hydrochloride in the presence of FeC13 or TaC15. In the presence of these anhydrous metal chlorides, this reaction may be carried out in the temperature range of between 30 and 90°C, without the occurrence of methyl or ethyltrichlorosilanes, or other fission-products, in appre- ciable amounts. The end-producs obtained may also easily be separated from the by-products by vacuum distillation, without having to use additional methods. In this connection, vacuum distillation is possible even in the presence of the metal-chlorides.
