ABSTRACT 3,6-Bis(carboethoxyamino)-2,5-diaziridinyl-1,4- benzoquinone, sometimes known as "AZO", is prepared by reacting a dialkylpyrocarbonate with a diamino hydroquinone to form 2,5-dichloro-3,6-bis(carboethoxyamino)-1,4- hydroquinone. The latter compound is oxidized to form the corresponding benzoquinone, which is reacted with an aziridinyl compound to produce 3,5-bis(carboethoxyamino)- 2,5-diaziridinyl-1,4-benzoquinone.
