A method for producing 5-isopropyluracil at a high yield in a short time, wherein N-(2-cyano-3-methylbutanoyl)urea is reduced in a 10-15% aqueous sulfuric acid solution in the presence of palladium carbon at 30-45°C, heated for ring closure reaction and added to a 50-70% aqueous sulfuric acid solution to give 5-isopropyluracil having a high purity.

Une méthode de production de 5-isopropyluracil à un rendement élevé en un court laps de temps, selon laquelle la N-(2-cyano-3-méthylbutanoyl)urée est réduite dans une solution aqueuse d'acide sulfurique à 10-15 % en présence de carbone et de palladium à 30-45.degré.C, le mélange résultant étant chauffé pour obtenir la fermeture du noyau, puis ajouté à une solution aqueuse d'acide sulfurique à 50-70 % pour donner du 5-isopropyluracil ayant un haut degré de pureté.
