The invention relates to a method for producing a felt containing staple fibres of ultra-highly oriented polyethylene having an intrinsic viscosity (in decalin at 135 ~C) of at least 5 dl/g, comprising the steps of opening up a mass of staple fibres, carding a layer of these staple fibres to produce a bonded fibre web, forming a stacked layer of the bonded fibre web by feeding it to a take-off means on which the bonded fibre web is laid down so as to overlap in zig-zag folds while being taken off at the same time and entangling the stacked layer to produce the felt. The felt has an improved strength, contexture and specific energy absorption (SEA), as a result of an antistatic having been applied to the staple fibres and the opening up and carding taking place at a relative humidity of at least 60 % at a temperature of at least 20 ~C. The invention also relates to a felt obtainable in accordance with the method, to antiballistic-shaped parts produced from teh felt, and to antiballistic items such as fragmentproof vests, blast protection blankets and the like which include, as a protective layer, one or more felts according to the invention. The invention further relates to cut resistant cloth.
La présente invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'un feutre de fibres discontinues de polyéthylène à très haut niveau d'orientation dont la viscosité intrinsèque (en décaline à 135 ·C) est d'au moins 5 dl/g. L'exécution de ce procédé comprend les étapes suivantes: dégager une masse de fibres discontinues; carder une couche de fibres continues pour obtenir une bande de fibres non tissées; former une couche empilée de cette bande en la faisant passer dans un dispositif récepteur sur lequel la bande de fibres non tissées est déposée, pour former une pile de fibres se chevauchant en zigzag à la réception; et enchevêtrer la couche ainsi empilée afin de produire le feutre. Le feutre ainsi obtenu se caractérise par une résistance plus grande et une texture ainsi qu'une absorption de charge antistatique améliorées par le fait que l'on a appliqué un agent antistatique sur les fibres discontinues et que les étapes de dégalement et de cardage se sont déroulées dans un milieu dont l'humidité relative était d'au moins 60 % et à une température d'au moins 20 ·C. L'invention concerne également un feutre ainsi fabriqué, des pièces profilées anti-ballistiques produites à partir d'un tel feutre, et des articles anti-ballastiques tels que des vestes anti-éclats, des couvertures de protection contre les déflagrations et autres articles de ce type, contenant une ou plusieurs couches de protection confectionnées (s) avec le feutre faissant l'objet de cette invnetion. En outre, l'invention concerne un vêtement résistant aux coupures.
