The invention includes methods of manufacturing shafts (10) to be used in medical devices. In particular, methods are disclosed to improve straightness and profile of wire used to form guidewires. The wire is preferably twist- straightened with a desired twist orientation, followed by grinding a desired profile on an apparatus (18) having a spin configuration that is aligned in the same direction as the twist orientation.
