ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of producing a marking on glass or plastic spectacle lens, comprising the step of directly irradiating those region of the surface of the lens which define the form of the marking with an eximer-laser so as to permit the radiation of the eximer-laser to effect a small removal of the material of the lens to define the marking. The energy of the eximer-laser is adjusted to remove only so thin a layer from the surface of the spectacle lens that the marking is recognitable as a breath marking.
