Disclosed is a method of producing altered starch from transformed potato plants or their progeny, comprising extracting starch from a potato plant, at least the tubers of which comprise at least an effective portion of a starch branching enzyme (SBE) cDNA sequence operably linked in the antisense orientation to a suitable promoter, such that the level of SBE activity is limited to less than 0.8 units per gram tuber. Also disclosed are potato plants comprising altered starch in accordance with the invention.

On décrit un procédé qui permet de produire une fécule modifiée à partir de plants de pommes de terre modifiés ou de leur descendance, et consiste à extraire la fécule d'un plant de pomme de terre dont les tubercules au moins comprennent au moins une portion efficace d'une séquence d'ADN complémentaire d'enzyme branchante de fécule (SBE) reliée fonctionnellement, dans l'orientation antisens, à un promoteur approprié, de façon que le niveau d'activité SBE soit limité à moins de 0,8 unité par gramme de tubercule. On décrit aussi des plants de pomme de terre contenant cette fécule modifiée selon l'invention.
