ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A heat-conducting, highly refractory, electrically- insulating potting compound and a method for producing the com- pound. The compound is based on granulated magnesium oxide and is used in the manufacture of electric heating elements. At higher operating temperatures, the electrical insulating property of fused magnesium oxide falls off sharply because of a sharp increase in electrical conductivity of magnesium oxide. To over- come this problem, the subject invention proposes to add fused, granulated magnesium-iron-aluminum-silicates to the granulated magnesium oxide prior to its use in the manufacture of heating elements. The addition of the fused, granulated, magnesium-iron- aluminum silicate directly improves the electrical-insulating behavior of the compound, without introducing any appreciable sintering or compressing effects or both.
