ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The present invention relates to a method for producing optically active alcohol derivatives, which are useful as fungicides, herbicides or plant growth regulators, represented by the formula, Image wherein R1 represents a C3-C8 cycloalkyl group, a halogen- substituted C3-C8 cycloalkyl group, a C5-C8 cycloalkenyl group or a halogen-substituted C5-C8 cycloalkenyl group, or a phenyl group which may be substituted with at least one member selected from the group consisting of a halogen atom, a C1-C4 alkyl group, a C1-C4 haloalkyl group, a cyano group, a C1-C4 alkoxyl group, a phenoxy group and a phenyl group, R2 represents a 1,2,4- triazol-1-yl group and a mark * means an asymmetric carbon, by carrying out the asymmetric reduction of a ketone compound represented by the formula, Image wherein R1 and R2 have the same meanings as above, with a boron hydride-reducing agent (a boron hydride type compound) modified with an optically active amino alcohol represented by the formula, Image wherein R3 represents a C1-C8 alkyl, C6-C10 aryl or C7-C11 aralkyl group, R4 represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-C6 alkyl or C7-C16 aralkyl group, R5 represents a hydrogen atom, a C1-C10 alkyl or C7-C16 aralkyl group, or a C6-C18 aryl group which may be substituted with at least one of C1-C6 alkyl and C1-C6 alkoxyl group, and a mark * has the same meaning as above, in the presence or absence of an acid; and also relates to the boron hydride type compound and its production method comprising reacting the above optically active amino alcohol with a boron hydride com- pound.
