ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a process for the pro- duction of .beta.-chloroethyl trichlorosilane by reacting vinyl tri- chlorosilane with HCl at elevated temperature in the presence of Lewis acids, wherein the reaction is carried out between 30 and 65°C at normal pressure, the said Lewis acids being used in quan- tities of from 0.1 to 15% by weight, based on the vinyl trichlo- rosilane used. From .beta.-chloroethyl trichlorosilane it is possible to produce compounds suitable for use in agricultural chemistry and as adhesion promoters.
