ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Processes are provided herein for producing a crystalline hydrate of a salt of the antimicrobial agent 1,1-dioxopenicillanoyloxy- methyl 6-(D-?-amino-?-phenylacetamido)penicillanate by specified alter- native reactions with p-toluenesulfonic acid. More particularly, the tosylate mono- and dihydrates are provided. These tosylate hydrates are easily obtained in a crystalline state, are devoid of organic solvent residues, show good stability on storage, and are effectively absorbed and hydrolyzed in vivo. Thus, they are specifically suitable for medi- cal treatment of patients, in particular for oral administration.
