ABSTRACT Cobalt is recovered by treating aqueous solutions con- taining ammonia and cobalt ions with a sufficient amount of an acid in the presence of a catalyst to convert the co- balt ions to a cobalt hexammine ion which is precipitated and separated from the resulting solution. According to another aspect of the invention, a cobalt compound is pre- cipitated from an aqueous solution of cobaltic hexammine halide by treating the solution with a metallic hydroxide and the precipitate is subsequently reduced to form fine cobalt powder. 21,987
