ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention is concerned with a method of produc- ing sheet-metal lids for containers, in which the lid-blanks are stamped out of sheet- or strip-metal, are provided with a pouring area, are then formed and are provided with a pro- tective coating impeding corrosion, whereupon a flexible closure-strip is applied to the surface of the lid by gluing or hot-sealing for the purpose of sealing the pouring area hermetically. The method of the invention is characterized in that after a hole-pattern defining the pouring area has been stamped out of the sheet, the stamping burrs produced around the holes are removed by subjecting the sheet to an electro-chemical treatment. The invention enables one to remove the burrs in a reliable, practical and inexpensive manner and thereby prevents any corrosion at the edges of the holes, which may react with the substance in the container and render it unserviceable.
