A method for producing light alpha olefins having improved purity by ethylene oligomerisation, wherein ethylene is contacted with a catalyst prepared by mixing a zirconium compound with an organic compound selected from the class of acetals and ketals, and with a chlorinated or brominated aluminium hydrocarbyl compound, and the raw oligomerisation effluent is first treated with an amine then subjected to evaporation to recover the alpha olefins in the evaporated fraction.

Procédé de production d'oléfines alpha légères de pureté améliorée par oligomérisation de l'éthylène caractérisé en ce que l'éthylène est mis au contact d'un catalyseur obtenu par mélange d'un composé de zirconium avec un composé organique choisi dans la classe des acétals et des cétals et avec un composé chloré ou bromé d'aluminium hydrocarbyle, et que l'effluent brut d'oligomérisation est traité d'abord par une amine, puis est soumis à une vaporisation de façon à recueillir les alpha-oléfines dans la fraction vaporisée.
