ABSTRACT Method for producing low-carbon steel from iron ore containing vanadium and/or titanium in which the ore is pre- reduced in a direct-reducing unit and is passed with a slight excess of carbon-carriers to a melting unit lined with refractory of composition corresponding to the slag-gangue, and the slag containing vanadium and/or titanium is processed in an electric furnace to a slag containing titanium and a molten iron containing vanadium, which may be processed into a primary slag containing a high content of vanadium or may be used directly as iron-vanadium alloy.
