ABSTRACT A method for producing metallic titanium by the reduction of titanium tetrachloride with a reducing metal agent, capable of continuously producing metallic titanium on an industrial scale. The temperature and pressure of the reaction region are kept above the melting point of metallic titanium and at least above the vapour pressure of the reducing metal agent, respectively, so that the reducing metal agent and its chloride may be kept in a molten state but without boiling.
