ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Method for producing orthosilicic acid tetra-alkyl esters whose ester constituents contain 2 to 6 C-atoms, by reacting metallic silicon selected from the group consisting of pure silicon, iron silicide, ferrosilicon and other silicon alloys having a silicon content higher than 50%, with the corresponding alcohols in the presence of the corresponding alkali alcoholates. The reaction is carried out under pressure in the presence of surface-active materials and/or of compounds containing methoxy groups and above the boiling temperature of the reaction mixture.
