A method for producing a side-pleated bag from heat--sealable material in which the front, back an side panels are joined by heat-sealed seams. The front and back walls are formed by mutually overlapping first and second flat webs. A third web is folded to form a side-pleated web having side-pleated sections. The bottom of the bag is formed by a fourth flat web which is heat-sealed with the side-pleated sections and with the first and second flat webs along their adjoining side edges.
