ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a method for producing high-molecular polyphenylene-oxides by oxidative coupling of a diorthosubstituted phenol in the presence of a copper-amine complex and an activator based upon morpholinium-bromide/alkali metal or alkaline-earth-metal-hydroxide, the novel method permitting use of air instead of more expensive oxygen, avoiding use of dangerous solvents and having improved polymerization efficiency.
