Abstract of the Disclosure The invention relates to preparation of aliphatic esters of carboxylic acids by reacting an olefin, carbon monoxide and an alkanol at elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of a cobalt-containing compound as catalyst and a promoter. The promoter is a mixture of substances separated during the working up of a reaction mixture obtained by reacting at elevated temperature and pressure an olefin carbon monoxide and an alkanol in the presence of a cobalt-containing catalyst and pyridine or a non-ortho- substituted alkyl pyridine. The said mixture of substances boils at a temp- erature higher than that of the aliphatic ester which is the product of the reaction and higher than the pyridine or non-ortho-substituted alkyl pyridine
