The invention relates to a method for producing water-swellable hydrophilic polymers by neutralising the acid hydrogel with a degree of neutralisation of 0 40 mol. % to a final degree of neutralisation of 60 85 mol. % by mixing with a neutralising agent in an opener using a system consisting of a screw, a rotating blade, a restricted flow area and a breaker plate, the capacity of the opener being 1000 to 6000 Wh/m3, the hydrogel being guided through an area with an energy dissipation density of 400 to 800 W/l mixing volume, the average residence time of the hydrogel in the opener being 5 to 30 seconds, and the free perforated surface of the breaker plate being 20 to 40 %.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de produire des polymères hydrophiles gonflant à l'eau par neutralisation de l'hydrogel acide, ayant un taux de neutralisation initial compris entre 0 et 40 mol %, de façon à atteindre un taux de neutralisation final compris entre 60 et 85 mol %. A cet effet, on mélange ledit hydrogel acide avec un agent neutralisant dans un loup au moyen d'un système constitué d'une vis sans fin, d'une lame rotative, d'une zone de retenue et d'une grille. Le rendement du loup est compris entre 1000 et 6000 Wh/m?3¿; l'hydrogel traverse une zone ayant une densité de dissipation d'énergie comprise entre 400 et 800 W/l de volumes de mélange; le temps de séjour moyen de l'hydrogel dans le loup est compris entre 5 et 30 secondes; et la surface des orifices de la grille est comprise entre 20 et 40 %.
