ABSTRACT A non-agricultural method for the production of cacao embryos comprising the steps of: (A) treatment of immature zygotic cacao embryos in a basal medium in the presence of a growth enhancer to initiate asexual embryos; (B) proliferating the embryos by low sugar amend- ment of the basal media after removal of the growth en- hancer; (C) growing the embryos in the media under aerated conditions to optimum size under the low sugar conditions; (D) continuing the growth of the embryos in the media under aerated conditions and by a high sugar amendment to the basal media; and (E) harvesting the embryos so pro- duced.
