The invention concerns a method for protecting from ambient air liquid magnesium deposited in the ingot moulds (2) by the casting tube (3) which consists in dispensing a protective gas mixture through injection ramps (4) into the empty ingot moulds (2) before casting, then at the surface of the metal in the filled ingot moulds (2). The protective gas mixture is prepared from bottles (7 to 10) containing carbon dioxide (CO2), an oxidising gas, argon and xenon respectively. Said method protects non-ferrous liquid metals from oxidation and spontaneous combustion.

Pour protéger de l'air ambiant le magnésium déposé, à l'état liquide, dans les lingotières (2) par le tube de coulée (3), un mélange gazeux de protection est distribué par des rampes d'injection (4) dans les lingotières vides (2) avant la coulée, puis à la surface du métal dans les lingotières (2) pleines. Le mélange gazeux de protection est préparé à partir de bouteilles (7 à 10) contenant respectivement du dioxyde de carbone (CO2), un gaz oxydant, de l'argon et du xénon. Le procédé selon l'invention protège les métaux liquides non ferreux de l'oxydation et de l'inflammation.
