The present invention concerns a method of protecting plants from pathogen attack through synergistic disease resistance attained by applying a conventional microbicide to immunomodulated plants. Immunomodulated plants are those in which SAR is activated and are therefore referred to as "SAR-on" plants. Immunomodulated plants may be provided in at least three different ways: by applying to plants a chemical inducer of SAR such as BTH, INA, or SA; through a selective breeding program based on constitutive expression of SAR genes and/or a disease-resistant phenotype; or by transforming plants with one or more SAR genes such as a functional form of the N/M1 gene. By concurrently applying a microbicide to an immunomodulated plant, disease resistance is unexpectedly synergistically enhanced; i.e., the level of disease resistance is greater than the expected additive levels of disease resistance.
La présente invention concerne un procédé de protection des plantes contre les attaques pathogènes par le développement de la résistance synergique à la maladie obtenue par l'application d'un microbicide aux plantes immunomodulées. Ces dernières sont des plantes dans lesquelles la résistance acquise systémique est activée, et sont par conséquent dites plantes à activation de résistance acquise systémique. Les plantes immunomodulées peuvent être obtenues de trois manières différentes: en appliquant aux plantes un inducteur chimique de résistance synergique à la maladie comme le BTH, l'INA, ou le SA; par un programme de culture sélectif fondé sur l'expression constitutive de gènes de résistance acquise systémique et/ou un phénotype résistant à la maladie ou en transformant des plantes avec un ou plusieurs gènes de résistance acquise systémique telle qu'une forme fonctionnelle du gène NIM1. En appliquant simultanément un microbicide à une plante immunomodulée, la résistance à la maladie est fortement augmentée de manière synergique; c'est-à-dire, le niveau de résistance à la maladie est supérieur aux niveaux additifs de résistance à la maladie.
