The present invention provides a method for providing high yields of IgG immunoglobulins from an egg yolk by a single separation step using a nonionic detergent, and a composition containing the purified IgG immunoglobulins. Also provided are methods of using the purified IgG immunoglobulins in immunodiagnostic assays and passive immunity therapies.
