ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE An improved method is disclosed for the purification of certain poly- carboxylic acids. These acids are reaction products of the oxidation of cyclic alkenes and alkene derivatives having 5 to 16 carbon atoms and which contain at least one carbon to carbon double bond in the ring, the oxidation being effected with nitric acid in the presence of a catalyst. The improvement comprises oxidatively post-treating the acids, giving end products of very high purity.
