A method for estimating hydrocarbon volume in a layered subsurface formation includes determining a vertical resistivity and a horizontal resistivity in the formation. A bound water saturation and a total porosity of individual layers of the formation are determined. Values of horizontal resistivity and vertical resistivity of the formation are calculated based on the bound water saturation and the total porosity for each layer and on an estimated irreducible bulk volume of water in each layer. The estimated values are compared to the determined horizontal resistivity and vertical resistivity. The estimated irreducible water saturation in each layer is adjusted and estimating the values is repeated until differences between the estimated values and the determined vertical and horizontal resistivity values fall below a selected threshold. The hydrocarbon volume is estimated from the adjusted irreducible water saturation for each layer.
La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant d'évaluer le volume d'hydrocarbures présent dans une formation souterraine multicouche en déterminant la résistivité verticale et la résistivité horizontale de la formation. On détermine la saturation en eau liée et la porosité totale de chaque couche de la formation. Les valeurs de la résistivité horizontale et de la résistivité verticale de la formation sont calculées sur la base de la saturation en eau liée et de la porosité totale de chaque couche, ainsi que du volume apparent d'eau irréductible estimé pour chaque couche. Les valeurs estimées sont comparées aux valeurs déterminées pour la résistivité horizontale et la résistivité verticale. La saturation en eau irréductible estimée pour chaque couche est corrigée et l'estimation des valeurs est répétée jusqu'à ce que la différence entre les valeurs estimées et les valeurs déterminées pour les résistivités verticale et horizontale tombe en dessous d'un seuil prédéterminé. Le volume d'hydrocarbures est estimé à partir de la saturation en eau irréductible corrigée pour chaque couche.
