Abstract of the Disclosure The invention relates to a method for rapid determina- tion of the contents of lignin, monosaccharides and organic acids in the process solutions of sulfite pulping. According to the invention, any non-ionized compounds that disturb measurements of concentrations are separated from the lignin material by fractioning by means of the ion-exclusion technique. The measurements of concentra- tions are carried out by means of the UV-method, refractive-index method, and/or by means of the polari- metric method. The method in accordance with the inven- tion is usable for the controlling of sulfite cooking or other pulping or by-product production prosesses as well as for the characterization of the spent liquor.
