Abstract of the Disclosure A method for removing ultrafine coal particles from coal preparation plant waste waters and the like. A small predetermined amount of a light liquid hydrocarbon, such as fuel oil, is intimately mixed with the coal containing waste water. The oil-treated wastewater is then passed through a vacuum or pressure filter which separates the coal particles from the water with a high degree of efficiency. The process may also be practiced in connection with conventional froth flotation processes.
