A process for recovering quantities of carbonyl compound material from spent solvent-in-water emulsions derived from paint overspray treatment and capture systems in which the spent solvent-in-water emulsion is removed from the paint overspray treatment and capture system and fed into a reaction vessel. The reaction vessel employed includes an outer housing defining a reaction chamber and a plurality of mixing blades movably positioned in the reaction chamber. The surface area of the mixing blades are maintained at a temperature sufficient to generate volatilized carbonyl compound. The interior of the reaction vessel is maintained under a vacuum. The spent solvent-in-water emulsion is processed in the reaction vessel for an interval sufficient to generate volatilized carbonyl compound. The generated volatilized carbonyl compound material is removed from the reaction vessel for recycle and reuse and the residual solid material remaining in the reaction vessel after generation of the volatilized carbonyl compound material is removed. The spent solvent-in-water emulsion which can be treated by the solvent recovery process of the present invention contains carbonyl compounds selected from the group consisting of secondary alcohol esters, secondary alcohol ester derivatives, and mixtures thereof and has a boiling point of at least 150 ~C, a vapor pressure between about 0.5 Torr at 20 ~C. The spent solvent-in-water emulsion processed by the carbonyl recovery method can either be previously dewatered to produce a spent solvent-in-water emulsion material with little or no water remaining or can be processed with most or all of the water portion of the emulsion present. In such instances, the water portion may be con-generated with the carbonyl compound.
L'invention concerne un procédé de récupération de quantités de composés carbonyles à partir d'émulsions solvant dans eau provenant de systèmes de traitement et de capture du dépassement de peinture, ce procédé consistant à extraire de ce système de traitement et de capture, l'émulsion utilisée solvant dans eau et à la transférer dans une cuve à réaction. Cette cuve à réaction contient un logement extérieur délimitant une chambre de réaction et une pluralité de lames de mélange positionnées de façon mobile dans la chambre de réaction. La zone de surface des lames de mélange est maintenue à une température suffisante pour créer un composé carbonyle volatilisé. L'intérieur de la cuve à réaction est maintenu sous un certain vide. L'émulsion utilisée solvant dans eau est traitée dans la cuve à réaction pendant un intervalle de temps assez long pour créer un composé de carbonyle volatilisé. La matière constituée de ces composés est extraite de la cuve de réaction afin d'être recyclée et réutilisée et la matière solide restant dans la cuve de réaction après la formation de la matière constituée par les composés de carbonyle volatilisé est retirée. L'émulsion utilisée solvant dans eau, pouvant être traitée par le procédé de récupération du solvant qui fait l'objet de la présente invention, contient des composés carbonyle sélectionnés dans le groupe constitué d'esters d'alcool secondaires, de dérivés d'esters d'alcool secondaires et de mélanges de ceux-ci. Le point d'ébullition de cette émulsion se situe à au moins 150· et la pression de vapeur est à environ 0,5 Torr à 20 ·C. L'émulsion solvant dans eau traitée par le procédé de récupération du carbonyle peut être soit désydratée préalablement afin de produire une matière contenant peu ou pas d'eau, soit traitée avec la majorité ou la totalité de l'eau contenue dans l'émulsion. Dans ce cas, la partie eau peut être produite en même temps que le composé carbonyle.
