The present invention provides methods for reducing A.beta. deposition, A.beta. neurotoxicity and microgliosis in an ani-mal or human afflicted with a cerebral amyloidogenic disease, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), by administering therapeutically effective amounts of the (R)-enantiomer of the dihydropyridine compound nilvadipine, also known as (-)-nilvadipine, to the animal or human. Further provided are methods for reducing the risk of A.beta. deposition, A.beta. neurotoxicity and microgliosis in animals or hu-mans suffering from traumatic brain injury by administering (-)-nilvadipine after the traumatic brain injury and continuing treatment for a prescribed period of time thereafter.

La présente invention a pour objet des procédés de réduction du dépôt ß-amyloïde, de la neurotoxicité ß-amyloïde et de la microgliose chez un animal ou un être humain affligé d'une maladie cérébrale amyloïdogénique, telle que la maladie d'Alzheimer (MA), par l'administration de quantités efficaces sur le plan thérapeutique de l'énantiomère (R) du composé de dihydropyridine, la nilvadipine, également connu sous le nom de (-)-nilvadipine, à l'animal ou l'être humain.
