ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for non-catalytically removing NOx from combustion effluent streams containing at least 0.1 vol.% O2 is disclosed comprising contacting the effluent at temperatures of about 1100°K to 1500°K and at superatmospheric pressure with ammonia in a con- tacting zone where the combustion effluent has a residence time of above 2 milliseconds.
