ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In the inventive method,light passes upwardly from a light source, through an optical element,and then is incident upon a photosensitive layer. A transparent optically-neutral sheet, which may be of glass or plastic, closely spaced above the optical element,intercepts extraneous matter that would normally fall on the optical element. At least during the exposing step, the sheet is moved with respect to the optical element to wash out degrading effects of the intercepted material.
