A method for stretch blow molding dilatation balloons for angioplasty catheters having a significantly reduced cone thickness without sacrifice in burst strength is achieved by drawing material from the cone section after the parison has been inflated to conform to the mold cavity configuration. The method may utilize a mold whose cavity includes arcuate walls defining the balloon's end cones and a predetermined minimal distance from the side edges of the mold to the points where the arcuate walls intersect with a smaller diameter balloon stem portion.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de moulage par soufflage de ballonnets de dilatation pour cathéters d'angioplastie, présentant une épaisseur de cône sensiblement réduite, sans perdre pour autant leurs résistance à l'éclatement. Ce procédé consiste à étirer un matériau depuis la partie conique après gonflage du paraison pour correspondre à la configuration de la cavité du moule. Ce procédé peut utiliser un moule dont la cavité possède des parois arquées formant les cônes de la partie terminale des ballonnets, une distance minimale prédéterminée s'étendant des bords latéraux du moule jusqu'aux points où les parois arquées croisent la partie tige du ballon à diamètre inférieur.
