An improved method for reducing an amount of precoding feedback information in a multi-carrier MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) communication system using precoding is disclosed. At the receiving end, the method jointly selects, while considering transmission quality for each relevant combination of sub-bands and matrices, a limited number of P codebook indices to be included in a vector .PI. and a limited number of K' sub-bands to be included in a subset .omega. (m 1,~, m K') of a set .OMEGA. of allowed sub-bands. K' is here set to a value K' < K and P is set to a value P < K'. The vector .PI. and information identifying the subset .omega. is then conveyed to the transmitting end.

L'invention concerne un procédé amélioré permettant de diminuer une quantité d'informations de rétroaction de précodage dans un système de communication MIMO (entrée multiple sortie multiple) multiporteuses à l'aide du précodage. Au niveau de l'extrémité de réception, tandis que le procédé analyse la qualité de transmission pour chaque combinaison pertinente de sous-bandes et de matrices, il sélectionne conjointement un nombre limité d'indices de livre de codes P à inclure dans un vecteur .PI. et un nombre limité de sous-bandes K' à inclure dans un sous-ensemble .omega. (m 1,~, m K') d'un ensemble .OMEGA. de sous-bandes autorisées. K' est fixé à une valeur K' < K et P est fixé une valeur P < K'. Le vecteur .PI. et des informations identifiant le sous-ensemble .omega. sont ensuite acheminés jusqu'à l'extrémité de transmission.
