A method for reducing emissions from an asphalt blowing process involves adding an alkali hydroxide emission-reducing additive in an amount sufficient to reduce the SOx emissions from the blowing process by at least 50 percent by weight over the same process without the emission-reducing additive. The emission-reducing additive does not substantially change the rate of the asphalt blowing process when compared with the same process without the emission-reducing additive.
