ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The invention relates to a method of reducing the explosiveness of gases vented from a urea-producing plant, wherein the urea-production process comprises the steps of: a) combining ammonia and carbon dioxide in a reactor under a first pressure of 50 to 450 atmospheres to form a product containing urea, ammonium carbamate and water; b) decomposing the ammonium carbamate under said first pressure into ammonia and carbon dioxide; c) condensing under said first pressure said ammonia and said carbon dioxide and separating therefrom uncondensable products; d) further decomposing residual ammonium carbamate under a second pressure of 10 to 25 atmospheres; e) condensing under said second pressure the major fraction of the conden- sable products; f) feeding the condensed and uncondensed pro- ducts under said second pressure together with the uncondensable products of step c) to a rectification column, and g) removing the ammonia from the rectification column outlet stream to obtain an explosive uncondensable gaseous mixture, said method comprising admixing with said explosive uncondensable gaseous mixture a gaseous stream obtained as a by-product in the pro duction of ammonia, said stream containing, in parts by volume, 0.1 to 77% of hydrogen, 0.1 to 29% of nitrogen, 0.1 to 50% of other inert gases, and methane to make up 100 parts.
