A method for refining non-ferrous metal wherein a stream of oxygen containing gas is provided from a lance (10) into the headspace (3) of a refining vessel (1) for passage to the molten metal bath (2) within the refining vessel, and a flame envelope (13) is provided around and along the oxygen containing gas stream (12) for a portion of its length, wherein the flame envelope simultaneously serves to keep accretions from forming on the lance face and serves to maintain the oxygen- containing gas stream coherent .

La présente invention concerne un procédé de raffinage d'un métal non ferreux dans lequel un flux de gaz contenant de l'oxygène est fourni à partir d'une lance (10) dans l'espace de tête (3) d'un récipient de raffinage (1) pour un passage dans le bain de métal à l'état fondu (2) dans le récipient de raffinage, et un panache de flamme (13) est fourni autour et le long du flux de gaz contenant de l'oxygène (12) sur une partie de sa longueur, le panache de flamme servant simultanément à empêcher la formation d'accrétions sur le côté de la lance et à maintenir cohérent le flux de gaz contenant de l'oxygène.
