METHOD FOR REMOVING BASIC COMPONENTS HAVING DISAGREEABLE ODORS FROM A GAS CONTAINING THE SAME Abstract of the Disclosure The specification discloses a method of removing basic components having disagreeable odors from a gas con- taining the same. This is achieved by bringing the gas into contact with a deodorizing material at a temperature not higher than 250°C. The deodorizing material consists of a porous and heat-resistant inorganic carrier supporting one or more of the following compounds, i.e. a proton acid, a Lewis acid or an acidic salt, in an amount of 1-50% by weight based on the weight of the carrier. The proton acid can be one or more of the following, i.e. phosphoric acid, boric acid, vanadic acid, chromic acid, an arylsulfonic acid, or a telephthalic acid. The Lewis acid may be selected from nickel sulfate, vanadium sulfate and manganese phosphate. The acidic salt can be one formed by the reaction of the acid and a basic component having a disagreeable odor. The deodorizing material can be regenerated after use by heating. The method can be employed to deodorize any gas containing basic components having dis- agreeable odors, e.g. the gas exhausted from a shell-mold factory.
