ABSTRACT Water containing cesium, such as the reactor coolant of a pressurized water nuclear reactor, is purified by passing the water through an ion exchange resin bed containing a highly cross-linked, macroporous, strong acid resin derived from a monovinylidene aromatic and a cross-linking monomer compolymerizable therewith. The cross-linking monomer is employed in amounts of at least 12 mole percent based on the total weight of the monovinylidene aromatic and cross- -linking monomer.
