According to the present invention, nitrosyl sulphuric acid is mixed with SO2- containing sulphuric acid, and the acid mixture is removed and transferred towards a stripping area. An SO2-containing gas is fed simultaneously into the stripping area, and a gaseous mixture containing SO2 as well as nitrogen oxides is removed from the upper portion of said stripping area. The SO2- containing sulphuric acid is removed from the lower portion of the stripping area and is mixed at least partially with the nitrosyl sulphuric acid. The gaseous mixture removed from the stripping area is fed at a temperature of between 20 and 100~ C into a heating area where said gaseous mixture is heated to a temperature of about 700 to 1300~ C, thus resulting in the decomposition of nitrogen oxides, mainly of N2O.

Selon l'invention, l'acide sulfurique de nitrosyle est mélangé avec de l'acide sulfurique contenant du SO¿2?, un mélange d'acides étant enlevé et transmis à une zone de stripage. Un gaz contenant du SO¿2? est introduit simultanément dans la zone de stripage, un mélange gazeux contenant du SO¿2? et des oxydes d'azote étant enlevé depuis la partie supérieure de la zone de stripage. L'acide sulfurique contenant du SO¿2? est enlevé de la partie inférieure de la zone de stripage et est mélangé au moins en partie avec l'acide sulfurique de nitrosyle. Le mélange gazeux enlevé de la zone de stripage est acheminé à une température comprise entre 20 et 100 ·C dans la zone de chauffage, où ledit mélange gazeux est porté à une température de l'ordre de 700 à 1300 ·C, ce qui entraîne une décomposition des oxydes d'azote, notamment du N¿2?O.
