A description is given of a method for removing thallium from pig-lead and high-purity lead by adding metal chlorides and/or chlorine gas, the removal of thallium being carried out in several stages at temperatures of between 350 and 400 °C, using a slight overall excess of metal chlorides or chlorine gas in relation to the thallium content, and the resulting thallium containing molten chloride being removed from the molten metal after each stage.
