The invention relates to a method for producing gypsum and an iron oxide pigment from the waste acid resulting from the production of titanium dioxide according to the sulfate process. The invention is characterized in that in an initial step the waste acid is partially neutralized using a calcium compound, resulting in the precipitation and possibly direct separation of gypsum. The remaining solution is neutralized further in a second step, with precipitation of a precipitate containing Ti, Al, Cr, V and possibly Fe(III). From the iron sulfate-containing solution obtained after separation of the solid, an iron oxide pigment is produced in a third step by addition of alkaline compounds and an oxidizing agent.
L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation de gypse, ainsi que d'un pigment d'oxyde de fer, à partir de l'acide dilué résultant de la préparation de dioxyde de titane, selon le procédé au sulfate. Ce procédé se caractérise en ce qu'au cours d'une première étape, il intervient une neutralisation partielle de l'acide dilué avec un composé calcium, entraînant une précipitation et éventuellement une séparation directe du gypse. La solution restante est ensuite neutralisée plus avant au cours d'une seconde étape, entraînant une précipitation d'un dépôt contenant Ti, Al, Cr, V et éventuellement Fe(III). Dans le cadre d'une troisième étape, un pigment d'oxyde de fer est produit, par adjonction de composés alcalins et d'un agent d'oxydation.
